Rave Reviews for The Best Brothers

Daniel MacIvor's The Best Brothers opened at the Tarragon Theatre in Toronto last week, and has since garnered several rave reviews.

Here's what some of the critics are saying:

"Funny, bittersweet, tightly written and profound in its own way, Brothers is MacIvor at his best." - Jeff Cottrill, Digital Journal

"It is by turns very funny, mildly whimsical and gently moving." - Martin Morrow, Globe and Mail

"The repartee [between the brothers] is familiarly sibling-like, but graced with MacIvor's sharp wit." -Dorianne Emmerton, Mooney on Theatre

The production runs until October 27 at the Tarragon.

Joseph Jomo Pierre on Shakespeare's Nigga

When J. Kelly Nestruck of the Globe and Mail asked Joseph Jomo Pierre, author of Shakespeare’s Nigga why he felt the impulse to talk back to Othello in his play, he explained it like this:

For myself, it’s that, beneath it all, I am a person of colour in this art world. In some ways, you feel like you are Shakespeare’s nigga. I think Othello speaks to us who feel like we’re on the sidelines. We’re the spear carriers and we don’t want to be the spear carriers.”

Shakespeare’s Nigga is now available from bookstores and in our online store.
